Step 4: Respond to Me (Dr. Inoue) (20 mins)

Post a response to each of the 2-3 comments you found that I made. Here’s how I’d like you to do it. In order to respond to each comment of mine, I would like you to write a paragraph (that means one paragraph per comment you are responding to). Each paragraph-response will follow a form (a template), just for this activity. This form will give me all the info I need to understand your response and what exact comment and assignment it refers to. To Write each short paragraph-response, follow these moves below (I’ve put the template language in blue):

  1. Start by introducing the assignment and what you said or did. Some language you can use might be something like this: In labor goal 2.2 – readings and AI, I said, “blah blah blah” when answering your prompt to explain X. (1 sentence)
  2. Quote what I said in response to your ideas in the assignment. This move can go something like this: You, Dr. Inoue, said, “blah blah blah.” (1 sentence, but could be more if you quote more than one sentence)
  3. Next, respond to my comment first by telling me what you think my words mean to you. I’ll use ellipses ( . . . ) to denote where you enter your words in my template language here. You can make this move by saying: I hear your saying that . . . because . . . Note that you have to tell me what you hear me saying and explain to me how you got to that meaning from my words and the context. In many cases, this may be straightforward, but you might be surprised by how often we all hear different ideas in others’ words than what they intend. (1-2 sentences)
  4. Finally, explain what you learned or what you’re thinking about now given our exchange that you’ve just summarized. This could be you thinking further about the lesson, or asking me a question, or furthering our discussion in some other way. This portion can be just 2-3 sentences, but feel free to make it longer. Each short paragraph should be at least 4 sentences long, NOT counting the quoted material from my comments, and you’ll have 2-3 paragraphs total. I don’t have a word limit for this, since I’d like you to follow the template above. Here’s the entire template language to give you a general sense of how each paragraph will move from one thing to the next. Of course, yours will be longer and a few things will be different. You’ll have actual quoted material in there, and I’m including some filler sentences or statements that could signal the kind of discussion I’m imagining you’ll have from items 3 and 4 above.
